Portlight Update...

On Saturday December 20th Portlight Strategies and Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team hosted a Christmas party for the residents of Bridge City, Tx. Presents were handed out by Santa, while a DJ played Christmas music; there were arts, crafts. games and a Christmas dinner for over 1,000 residents. The above video tells the story best; from the children's smiling faces as they play in the snow to the interviews with the residents who won the gift cards. This community was devastated by Hurricane Ike's massive storm surge and they have a long road to recovery. There were only 14 homes in this community of over 8,000 that did not sustain significant damage from Ike.

Many thanks go to the volunteers and donors that helped make this Christmas party a such a wonderful event. There is still a long road ahead for the people of Bridge City, but it was a chance to regain a little of the holiday season that was so rough for so many.

Portlight would like to thank all of the people that took part in the Honor Walk which helped raise funds to provide the party. Without you none of this would have been possible. As we move forward we desperately need to replenish funds that were exhausted on Ike relief. Portlight is currently planning a Spring Walk for Disaster Relief . We are in dire need of volunteers to make this event happen in multiple cities. There are many ways in which you can help. Please contact presslord@aol.com or john@portlight.org with your intent to help. We are having a conference call on January 7th to discuss and continue the planning for the Spring Walk. If you would like to help; then please contact us and we will send you the toll free call in number and the pass code. The success of this event plays a critical roll in preparing for future disasters and continuing our current efforts. Any help or support you can offer is greatly appreciated.
